Our tips for success

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house. It’s sort of a meeting place for the whole family, where you can have a good time while enjoying good food. There are different types of kitchens depending on the interior design of your home. Either way, getting it right is essential. Discover how to do it.

The budget and your needs

Before starting any process, you must first think about the budget you want to allocate to the layout of your kitchen. Whether in construction, renovation or development, this is essential. It is according to your budget that you will define the work to be done, the elements to put in place and the professionals to call.

Besides this, you should also make a list of your needs. You must already have some ideas of the kitchen you want to have even if these are not yet precise. Think carefully about what you really need. For example, if you have a large family, fitting out a large kitchen is recommended. You can even consider putting a corner armchair in your kitchen. If your house is spacious, an open kitchen will be possible.

What type of cuisine to choose?

Once you have finished defining your needs, you must now think about the type of kitchen you want to put in place. There are different types.

I-shaped or linear kitchen

If you have a small kitchen, this configuration is the one that suits you the most. As its name suggests, the piece is in length. It often includes the bare essentials, including a worktop and a single or double sink. To store kitchen utensils, it is possible to set up storage cupboards that are hung on the wall. This type of configuration is really made for those who do not have a lot of space in their home.

The L-shaped kitchen

If you have a square area, this configuration is what you need. The location of the kitchen is at an angle. There is no need to occupy two sections of walls. If you want to save space, you can simply use a bar counter to have the L-shape of the kitchen using a single section of wall.

The U-shaped kitchen

If your house is big, this type of kitchen is the ideal choice for you. To arrange it, you will need 3 sections of walls. With this configuration, you will have enough space to set up various kitchen elements such as a large worktop, household appliances of all kinds and why not a VidaXL armchair.

The parallel kitchen

It looks a bit like the I-shaped kitchen, because it is arranged in length. Generally, it is parallel to another room which is the living room for example or the dining room. To save space, you can build a long worktop with cupboards for storage.

The kitchen with a central island

It is an open kitchen, in U or L, but which integrates an island in the center. This is one of the most trending setups right now. The island plays a defining role in the kitchen. However, be aware that you can only consider it if you have a large enough space to set it up. If your kitchen is closed, no need to consider it either.

Planning according to the activity triangle

The kitchen is a room quite different from all the others. You are there not to relax, but to work, to cook. It is for this reason that it must be arranged in the best way so that you can carry out your culinary preparations and your household chores in complete freedom.

This is why we also speak of the activity triangle. This is a set of 3 dots which, when connected together, form a zone, the one where you circulate the most in your kitchen to carry out your daily tasks.

These three points include the washing pole, the cooking pole and the storage pole. The layout of the kitchen must be done according to these 3 poles so that everything becomes easy for you. This will save you time.

The dimensions

Before starting the work, you must define the dimensions of each element of your kitchen. Regardless of the configuration you have chosen, be aware that there are standards that must be respected, such as the height of the worktop, which must be 85 cm to 95 cm. For household appliances, for example, you should always leave a free space of 90 cm in front of an opening door.

The choice of materials and color

Just because the kitchen is more of a functional room than a relaxation room doesn’t mean you’re going to neglect its look. On the contrary, you must adopt the best materials to ensure the durability of your kitchen, but also so that it is modern and stylish. Stainless steel, concrete, laminate etc…, there are many types of materials on the market. It is up to you to choose the one that comes closest to the design you want for the kitchen. But be aware that practicality and ease of maintenance must come first.

The choice of color must be in harmony with the other rooms, especially if it is open. Modern all-white kitchens are very trendy right now. If you like the Scandinavian style, put up wooden furniture.

The choice of storage

Storage is of great importance in the kitchen. The model you are going to choose should depend on the size of the room. If you have a large kitchen, you can afford low cupboards under the bench, for example, or even a pantry. On the other hand, prefer cupboards hung on the wall, of the type spice rack if you have little space. Use baskets to save space. Under the sink you can put the trash can.
