What can cause depression and anxiety? Today we are going to talk about depression and anxiety in detail. let’s start first with the definitions.
Depression: it is stated as low set mood, loss of interest in routine activities.
Anxiety: Anxiety, on the other hand, defined as low mood and episodes of excessive movements and speaking accompanied by sweating most of the times.
Scientist says that both Depression and Anxiety is due to abnormal decrease or increase in select chemicals in our Brain called “Neurotransmitters”. There are many neurotransmitters in our body, but Dopamine, Serotonin and Norepinephrine play an essential role in depression. All these neurotransmitters decrease in depression. Let’s move on to the symptoms of depression.
- Low mood.
- Loss of interest in daily activities.
- Suicidal Thoughts.
These are the main symptoms of depression if you notice these symptoms in any of your friend or relative, then help him/her realize that he/she is suffering from depression. There are treatments available so we can prevent the worst outcome, which is ‘Sucide’.

These are the most important causes of Depression. Here I would like to elaborate on ‘Lifestyle’ and try to explain how our lifestyle helps to combat Depression.
Statistics says that there is a sharp increase in the cases of Depression since 1990. The reason is that with advanced technology, we are going farther to nature, and whenever we try to outcome nature, it will bounce back, and we have to face serious consequences.
With advanced technology, we stop doing exercises and eating natural food and food is one of the reasons for Depression! The study suggests that people eating green vegetables have fewer chances of Depression. You can take a look at our Regular area, and you will understand.
Note: Dark chocolate is also very good for preventing depression.
Do poor people tend to have more chances of depression than Wealthier people?
The simple answer is ‘No’. Washington is the wealthiest city in the world with every 11th person being Millionaire but every 4th person there is suffers from depression. The more competition you get yourself involve into, the more chances of depression.
Finally, let’s talk about treatments available. If someone is diagnosed with depression, there is no need to worry, there are many effective treatments available.

- Pharmacologic therapy.
- Electroconvulsive therapy.
The last one spared for very serious and emergency cases and we usually started treatment with the combination of Behavioural therapy and Pharmacologic therapy. A most common class of drugs used in Depression is SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors).
Anxiety is when you can not think clearly and keep speaking a lot of moving a lot with or without anger accompanied by palpitations ( awareness of one’s heartbeat) and sweating.
Most of the people have Anxiety attacks which differentiate from panic attacks by no trigger situation in Anxiety as compared to Panic attacks.
There are many causes of Anxiety, but mostly it relates to the personality of a person. Type A Personality people tend to be more Anxious. Treatment includes.
- Benzodiazepines (e.g. Diazepam).
- Barbiturates (e.g. phenobarbital).
- SSRI’s (e.g. Fluoxetine).
